This book gathers a selection of peer-reviewed papers presented at the 4th Big Data Analytics for Cyber-Physical System in Smart City (BDCPS 2022) conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 16–17. The contributions, prepared by an international team of scientists and engineers, cover the latest advances and challenges made in the field of big data analytics methods and approaches for the data-driven co-design of communication, computing, and control for smart cities. Given its scope, it offers a valuable resource for all researchers and professionals interested in big data, smart cities, and cyber-physical systems.
Mohammed Atiquzzaman obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Manchester (UK). He currently holds the Edith Kinney Gaylord Presidential professorship in the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma and is a senior member of IEEE. Dr. Atiquzzaman is the editor-in-chief of Journal of Networks and Computer Applications, the founding editor-in-chief of Vehicular Communications, the former co-editor-in-chief of Computer Communication, and has served/serving on the editorial boards of IEEE Communications Magazine, International Journal on Wireless and Optical Communications, Real Time Imaging journal, Journal of Communication Systems, Communication Networks and Distributed Systems, and Journal of Sensor Networks. He also guest edited 12 special issues in various journals. He has served as the symposium co-chairs for IEEE Globecom (2006, 2007, 2012, 2014, 2016) and IEEE ICC (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016) conferences and the co-chair of IEEE High Performance Switching and Routing Symposium (2011 and 2003). He also co-chaired NSysS (2016), DependSys (2015), ChinaComm (2008), and the SPIE Quality of Service over Next Generation Data Networks conferences (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005). He was the panel’s co-chair of INFOCOM’05 and is/has been in the program committee of numerous conferences such as INFOCOM, ICCCN, and Local Computer Networks. He serves on the review panels of funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation, National Research Council (Canada), and Australian Research Council (Australia). In recognition of his contribution to NASA research, he received the NASA Group Achievement Award for "outstanding work to further NASA Glenn Research Center's effort in the area of Advanced Communications/Air Traffic Management's Fiber Optic Signal Distribution for Aeronautical Communications" project. He received the IEEE Satellite Communications Technical Contribution Award due to his contributions to research in space communications and the IEEE Distinguished Technical Achievement Award for his work in communications switching and routing. Dr. Atiquzzaman received IEEE Communication Society's Fred W. Ellersick Prize. He has been invited to deliver keynote talks in over 20 international conferences around the globe, including USA, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Australia, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Korea. He is the co-author of the book “Performance of TCP/IP over ATM networks”, co-edited 8 books, co-authored 5 book chapters, written 25 journal editorials, and has over 300 refereed technical publications, most of which can be accessed at www.cs.ou.edu/~atiq.
His research interests are in satellite communications, wireless and mobile networks, vehicular networks, ad hoc networks, Quality of Service, and optical communications. His research has been funded by National Science Foundation (NSF), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Air Force, Cisco, Honeywell, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, and Oklahoma Highway Safety Office through grants totaling over $10M.Neil Y. Yen received his doctorates in human sciences at Waseda University, Japan, and in engineering at Tamkang University, Taiwan, in 2012. His doctorate in Waseda University was funded by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) under RONPAKU program. He has served as an associate professor at the University of Aizu, Fukushima, Japan, since April 2012. He has been engaged in the interdisciplinary research domains including computer science and engineering, information management, and human informatics. His research interests are primarily in computational intelligence and its applications. Both theoretical and practical issues are concerned including (1) hybrid intelligence for information retrieval, management, and optimization; (2) awareness systems for human-centered support; and (3) social network analysis. Yen has been actively involved in the research community by serving as the guest co-editor of the WWW Journal, International Journal of Computational Intelligence, Journal of Supercomputing and Cluster Computing: the Journal of Networks, Software Tools and Applications; as an associate editor of Human-Centric Computing and Information Sciences, International Journal of Systems and Service-Oriented Engineering, and several journals related to his research area; as a reviewer for technical journals/transactions; and as an organizer/chair of IEEE/ACM international conferences and workshops. His recent publications can be found on refereed international journals/conferences, including 3 on ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology, IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, and the WWW Journal. He is now a member of IEEE Computer Society, IEEE System, Man, and Cybernetics Society, and technical committee of awareness computing (IEEE SMC).
