Gustavsson studied at the legendary Christer Strömholm's Fotoskolan in Stockholm in the mid 60s.
Together with his fellow student Anders Petersen he portrayed the Stockholm slums in an exhibition at the Stockholm City Museum in 1969. Travels to Hamburg, Paris, and Mallorca resulted in many of his most exciting photos.
