Trama

This book provides a timely overview of analytical tools and methodological approaches for studying membrane lipids. It outlines the ground-breaking advances that have been made over the last two decades in high-throughput lipidomics, and in studying lipid-protein interactions, signalling pathways and the regulation of lipid metabolism.

This user-friendly laboratory handbook is an ideal companion for membrane biologists, researchers, students, and clinicians alike. It is also well suited for teaching biochemistry, microbiology and biotechnology courses, making it a must-have for everyone whose work involves lipid research.

Sommario

Background of Membrane Lipids.- Lipid Regulation in Pathogenic Fungi.- Sphingolipids: Functional and Biological Aspects in Mammals, Plants and Fungi.- Insights into Yeast Phospholipid Tra(ff)icking.- What Can MS, NMR and TLC Tell Us About the Composition of Lipid Membranes?.- Analysis of Sterols by Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry.- Quantitation of Sphingolipids in Mammalian Cell Lines by Liquid Chromatography Mass-Spectrometry.- Exploring Membrane Lipid and Protein Diffusion by FRAP.- Cyclodextrins for Probing Plasma Membrane Lipids.- New Family of Fluorescent Probes for Characterizing Depth-Dependent Static and Dynamic Properties of Lipid/Water Interfaces.- Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy of Nitrile Labels as a Tool to Probe Dynamics and Interactions in Lipid Membranes.- Estimation and Imaging Techniques to Study Lipids in Mammalian Samples.
