The island of Sardinia is a place apart, an exclusive, wild land in a blue sea that attracts thousands of visitors every year, among them the super rich who have made the Costa Smeralda on the northeast coast one of the most expensive places in Europe. AUTORE

Born in Cagliari in 1984, Daniele Lorrai has been captivated by the wildlife of his native island since he was at school. He bought his first camera when he was twenty and now lives in Nuoro with his partner, Francesca, working as a plumber and spending most of his spare time photographing wildlife, particularly in the mountains his father introduced him to on fishing trips. The result is his unparalleled collection of pictures, which are published here for the first time. Taken over a number of years of waiting for exactly the right moment – and hoping for a bit of luck – they capture a family of mouflon, a golden eagle making off with a boar, an osprey snatching a fish, a beetle lunching on a caterpillar, and many other remarkable moments. Daniele's photographs give us a privileged view of the extraordinary richness of the island's fauna. These breathtaking images are a tribute to his passion, his patience and his eye for the perfect shot.
