Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs)are responsible for educating 20 percent of the nation’s college students and nearly 40 percent of the nation’s students of color. This growing group of institutions is essential to higher education and moving toward a more equitable society. Marybeth Gasman is the Judy and Howard Berkowitz Professor of Education and the Director of the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. Andrés Castro Samayoa is Assistant Professor of Higher Education in the Lynch School at Boston College. He also serves as the Assistant Director for Assessment at the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions at the University of Pennsylvania, USA.
